Editorial Standards
The Manchester Daily is an independent local publication covering Greater Manchester — its news, food and drink, neighbourhoods, culture and what's on. This page explains how our content is made, sourced and checked, and the standards we hold ourselves to.
Our mission
To be a genuinely useful daily guide to Manchester: clear, honest, locally focused, and free to read. We care more about being accurate and helpful to Mancunians than about being first or loudest.
How our content is produced
Our work combines experienced editorial judgement with modern research and drafting tools. We use AI-assisted tools to help gather background, surface local information and prepare first drafts at the pace a daily publication demands. Every piece is shaped by our editorial standards, reviewed before it is published, and attributed to a named member of our team who is accountable for it.
AI is a tool in our newsroom, not a replacement for editorial responsibility. We do not publish unreviewed automated output, and a human remains responsible for what appears on the site.
Sourcing and attribution
Where a story draws on reporting or data from other organisations, we aim to add our own local context, analysis or reporting rather than simply restate someone else's work, and we credit original sources where appropriate. Our neighbourhood guides, food and drink coverage and “living here” features are written for a Manchester audience and reflect our own research and perspective.
Accuracy and corrections
We work hard to get things right, but mistakes happen. If you spot an error, please tell us via our contact page and we will check it promptly. Where we have published something inaccurate, we correct it and, for anything significant, make clear that a correction has been made. We do not quietly delete stories to hide errors.
Editorial independence and advertising
Our journalism is independent of our commercial relationships. Advertising and sponsorship never determine what we cover or the view we take. Where content is paid for or sponsored, it is clearly labelled as such and kept separate from our editorial coverage. You can read more about how advertising works on the site in our privacy policy.
Our team
Our coverage is written by named contributors with bylines and author profiles, so you can see who is behind each piece. You can find their profiles linked from the articles they write, and learn more about the publication on our about page.
