The M67 has reopened after police concluded their investigation into suspected human remains found near the motorway between Hyde and Hattersley.
Road workers discovered the remains close to a bridge between junctions three and four shortly after 11pm on Monday (August 3). Forensic officers scoured the scene throughout Tuesday while the eastbound carriageway was closed.
Police concluded their on-site investigations at around 8.30pm on Tuesday evening, National Highways confirmed. The same stretch of motorway remained closed overnight for planned roadworks on the A57 link roads scheme before reopening as normal at 6am on Wednesday.
GMP said in a statement: "Detectives believe they have identified human remains found close to the M67 in Tameside. Officers were called shortly after 11pm on Monday 3 August by road workers who made the discovery close to a bridge between junctions 3 and 4. We are working with specialist teams to understand the circumstances behind this incident."
