Police have launched a murder investigation after a woman died in a fire on a farm in Rochdale.

The body of a woman, in her 30s, was found inside stables at Higher Tunshill Farm off Tunshill Lane in Milnrow. Firefighters were called to the blaze at around 12.30pm on Friday (July 3).

Pictures from the scene showed fierce flames ripping through the building with thick black smoke pouring into the sky. It is thought the derelict stables may have been under renovation.

A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of murder and has since been bailed. Parts of the farm remain cordoned off and forensic investigators remain at the scene.

What did police say?

A GMP spokesperson said: "At around 12.30pm on Friday 3 July, emergency services were called to reports of a fire at Higher Tunshill Farm, Milnrow. Sadly, emergency services discovered the body of a woman inside stables at the property."

They added: "A male in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of murder and has since been bailed pending further investigation. A scene remains in place and enquiries are ongoing."

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service declined to comment as a police investigation was underway.
