Boy, 15, arrested after double stabbing near Heaton Park Metrolink stop

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after two teenagers were stabbed near Heaton Park Metrolink stop in Prestwich.

Emergency services were called to Whittaker Lane shortly before 6pm on Monday evening (September 22). An air ambulance landed in Heaton Park nearby.

A teenage boy, 16, and a man, 18, were both taken to hospital with injuries. GMP said these are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Crime scene investigators arrived at the scene just after 8pm. A cordon remained in place on Tuesday as investigations continued. The Bury Metrolink line was suspended during the incident and the Heaton Park tram stop was closed for some time afterwards.

The 15-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody.

What did police say?

Detective Superintendent Gareth Jenkins from GMP's Bury district said: "We continue to make progress on an investigation into a serious attack on two teenagers in Prestwich yesterday. We now have a 15-year-old suspect in custody, and he is currently being questioned by investigators."

He added: "Violence on our streets will not be tolerated, and I want to reassure members of the public that we believe this is an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public."

Jenkins said: "We know that knife crime causes significant concern within our communities, and we want the public to know that we will continue to pursue offenders, remove weapons from circulation and take positive action to keep people safe."
