Manchester United are ready to make a move for Aurelien Tchouameni if Real Madrid indicate they are willing to sell the midfielder this summer.
According to The Athletic, United continue to maintain their interest in the 26-year-old and are willing to submit an offer if he is made available. The club have held talks to find out Madrid's stance on selling Tchouameni before the end of the transfer window.
Earlier this year there was no indication Madrid would be willing to part with the France international. However, they are now understood to be open to a major sale in midfield to finance a squad rebuild under Jose Mourinho.
Tchouameni joined Madrid from Monaco in 2022 in a deal worth €80 million (£68.3 million) plus €20 million (£17 million) in add-ons. He still has two years remaining on his contract.
Why do United need him?
Having already agreed a £35 million deal for Atalanta's Ederson, United want at least one more central midfielder after missing out on Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, who have both joined Tottenham.
What about the other targets?
United have also held talks with Chelsea over a deal for Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos. However, Chelsea are understood to value Santos at £50 million, a price United are not prepared to meet.
United also remain interested in Bournemouth's Alex Scott, but the south-coast club insist the 22-year-old is not for sale.
