Man Utd dealt double blow as Tchouameni stays at Real Madrid and Lucumi closes in on Juventus move

Manchester United have been dealt a double transfer blow, with Aurelien Tchouameni set to stay at Real Madrid and Jhon Lucumi closing in on a move to Juventus.

Tchouameni had been United's leading target for the defensive midfield role vacated by Casemiro. The club made an enquiry earlier in the window and were understood to be "front of the queue" if Real decided to sell. But with Jose Mourinho wanting to keep him, the Frenchman appears to be going nowhere.

Lucumi, the Bologna and Colombia centre-back, was also on United's radar as a potential defensive addition. But he is now closing in on a transfer to Juventus, with an agreement between the Italian clubs reportedly in place.

The double setback leaves United still searching for their third midfield signing with just three weeks until deadline day. Manu Kone remains on the shortlist, but an internal disagreement between recruitment director Christopher Vivell and director of football Jason Wilcox over his suitability has slowed progress.

What are City doing?

Across the city, The Athletic reports that Manchester City are exploring a deal for Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez, with both Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders potentially set to leave the Etihad this summer.

Barcelona have had a £51.4 million bid for Rodri rejected, with City wanting upwards of £60 million. Fernandez is valued at around £120 million by Chelsea.

If both Rodri and Reijnders leave, City would need significant midfield reinforcements. Fernandez would represent a statement signing, though the fee would be enormous.

What else is new?

A new Mourinho documentary released on Netflix today reveals that the Portuguese manager signed a contract to take over at Manchester United in 2013 before pulling out. David Moyes was ultimately appointed as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor.
