Manchester United are closing in on a free transfer for Swansea City goalkeeper Kit Margetson, which would make him Michael Carrick's first new arrival of the summer.

The 19-year-old has been with Swansea since Under-15s level. The Championship side confirmed in May that they were in discussions over a new deal, but those talks appear to have broken down. BBC Sport reports that United are now set to sign him.

Margetson did not make a first-team appearance for Swansea but gained senior experience on loan at Connah's Quay Nomads last season. He is likely to go into United's Under-21s setup to continue his development.

What is happening with the rest of the goalkeeping department?

Andre Onana is set to move to Turkish side Trabzonspor on loan for the second season in a row after spending last year with the club. Second-choice Altay Bayindir is also expected to leave as he searches for more regular game time, having been behind Senne Lammens in the pecking order last season.

United have been linked with Leeds United's Karl Darlow, who is out of contract at Elland Road and available on a free, though Everton are also said to be interested.

Third-choice Tom Heaton has signed a new contract at Old Trafford. He said: "It is a huge honour to continue to represent Manchester United. You can feel the determination and ambition of everyone throughout the club to keep pushing for success."

United are also closing in on a £35 million move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, but his confirmation has been delayed by his involvement with Brazil at the World Cup.
