Manchester United's chiefs are reportedly preparing to fly to Madrid to discuss a potential move for Aurelien Tchouameni as Michael Carrick's first transfer window as permanent manager gathers pace.

Spanish publication Diario AS reports that United executives will travel to the Spanish capital for talks over the France midfielder. However, the deal is not expected to be easy: any sales Real Madrid sanction this summer will each exceed £85 million, the outlet adds.

Does Tchouameni want to leave?

It is understood Tchouameni wants to remain at the Bernabeu. However, AS points to previous transfer activity between the two clubs that could help any deal. Raphael Varane moved from Spain to Manchester in 2021 and Casemiro did the same a year later. The report claims this good relationship means both clubs "remain aligned on transfers."

Has Carrick turned down Leao?

United are also looking for a new wide player, and reports claim AC Milan and Portugal star Rafael Leao has been offered to them by his agent. But The Sun reports that Carrick does not view Leao as a target, even though his representatives contacted the club over a possible move.

Leao has reportedly said he would happily join Tottenham, and Carrick has seemingly turned down the chance to hijack that deal. Saudi Pro League clubs and Barcelona are considered alternative destinations.

What about Ederson?

Ederson's transfer has been delayed due to his World Cup availability and the lack of a completed medical. United have yet to add a single senior player to their squad this summer, with the Atalanta midfielder expected to be the first arrival once the formalities are completed.

A second midfield signing is also expected alongside Ederson, with Tchouameni the primary target.
