Aurelien Tchouameni and Alex Scott remain high on Manchester United's list of midfield targets as the club regroups after watching Mateus Fernandes join Tottenham for £85 million.

Sky Sports reports that United have a shortlist that also includes Felix Nmecha, Ayyoub Bouaddi and Sander Berge, with a deal for Atalanta's Ederson to be completed after his World Cup campaign with Brazil.

Why is Tchouameni complicated?

The situation at Real Madrid is tangled by the Spanish club's own desire to reshape their midfield. Real announced on Friday that they have no intention of pursuing Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez. They also want Manchester City's Rodri, but City intend to keep him and want him to sign a new deal.

If Real do need to create space in midfield, they are widely reported in Spain to be more open to moving on Eduardo Camavinga than Tchouameni, which could make a deal difficult for United.

What about Alex Scott?

With Tchouameni currently difficult, Bournemouth's Scott is also a high-priority target. United and Arsenal would be frontrunners to sign him, but Sky Sports News has already reported that Bournemouth do not want to sell any of their best players. They want Scott to sign a new deal.

Who else is on the shortlist?

United have made further checks on Lille and Morocco midfielder Bouaddi this week as the 18-year-old continues to impress at the World Cup ahead of a last-16 meeting with Canada on Saturday. Borussia Dortmund's Nmecha and Fulham's Berge also feature.

What about the left wing?

Crysencio Summerville remains the number one target on the left wing. United have held initial, exploratory talks with West Ham over a deal for the Netherlands international, whose future is expected to be clarified in the coming weeks after the Dutch were knocked out of the World Cup by Morocco.

United ideally want to sign him using funds from the sale of Marcus Rashford, who is set to return to Old Trafford once his post-World Cup break is finished. Depending on how far England go, that could be well into August.

Tottenham are also in the running for Summerville and United are "very aware they could lose out to Spurs on another priority target" if they do not move quickly. There is also still a chance Rashford stays as a squad player under Carrick.

The pursuit of Newcastle's Lewis Hall at left-back is on hold until more midfielders are signed.
