Major rail disruption as emergency incident blocks line between Manchester, Wigan and Liverpool
All lines are closed between Liverpool Lime Street and Huyton. Northern services are being cancelled or delayed and TransPennine Express trains between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool cannot run.
Passengers are facing major disruption on trains between Manchester, Wigan and Liverpool this morning (Monday, August 10) due to an emergency incident.
All lines are closed between Liverpool Lime Street and Huyton while emergency services deal with an incident. TransPennine Express said the incident is at Broad Green.
Northern services between Wigan North Western and Liverpool are being cancelled, delayed or revised. TransPennine Express trains between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool Lime Street are unable to run. Rail replacement buses are operating between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool in both directions.
National Rail said: "All lines are closed between Liverpool Lime Street and Huyton whilst the emergency services deal with an incident. To allow them to carry out their work safely, no trains can currently run through the area. Services running between Liverpool Lime Street and Wigan North Western and St Helens Junction may be cancelled, delayed by up to 50 minutes or revised."
Major disruption is expected until at least 12.30pm.
