Avanti trains between Manchester and London cancelled, delayed and diverted after safety check
Services between Manchester Piccadilly and London Euston were disrupted on Wednesday afternoon after a track inspection between Milton Keynes and Rugby forced trains to run at reduced speed. The line has since been cleared.


Avanti West Coast trains between Manchester Piccadilly and London Euston faced delays, cancellations and diversions on Wednesday afternoon (September 16).
A safety inspection of the track between Milton Keynes Central and Rugby meant trains had to run at reduced speed on some lines. Services were delayed by up to 20 minutes, with some cancelled or diverted through Northampton.
National Rail said: "A safety inspection of the track between Milton Keynes Central and Rugby means that trains have to run at a reduced speed on some lines. As a result, trains running between these stations may be delayed by up to 20 minutes, revised or diverted via Northampton."
The inspection was completed by around 5pm and trains returned to normal speed, though some residual delays continued.
Avanti West Coast customers whose trains were cancelled could use tickets on the two services either side of their booked train or request a full refund from where they purchased their ticket.
