Motorists travelling eastbound on the M62 faced delays of up to an hour and a half on Monday morning following a collision between a car and a van.

The incident occurred between junction 24 for Ainley Top and junction 25 for Brighouse, resulting in the closure of two out of three lanes. Tailbacks extended as far back as junction 21 near Rochdale, significantly affecting commuters heading out of Greater Manchester.

According to National Highways, the extended disruption was partly due to the car involved being an electric vehicle. Because of the damage sustained in the crash, recovery teams were unable to quickly move the vehicles to the hard shoulder.

No injuries were recorded as a result of the collision.

The agency confirmed that recovery crews attended the scene to clear the carriageway. All lanes were fully reopened shortly before 8:50 am, allowing traffic conditions to return to normal.
