The M67 is closed in both directions between junction three at Hyde and junction four at Hattersley due to a police incident this morning (Tuesday, August 4).

Greater Manchester Police said the road is expected to remain shut for the majority of the day. There are currently no timescales for when it may reopen.

A GMP Tameside spokesperson said: "Please be aware that officers are dealing with an ongoing incident on the M67. While investigations continue, the M67 will be closed in both directions for the majority of the day. Please find an alternate route and we are sorry for the inconvenience this will cause."

Further details about the nature of the incident have not been confirmed. Police are carrying out detailed investigations at the scene to establish the circumstances.

What are the diversion routes?

Eastbound drivers should leave the M67 at junction 3, turn right onto the A627 Clark Way southbound, then turn left onto the A57 Mottram Road eastbound and continue for just over two miles to rejoin the M67 at the junction 4 roundabout.

Westbound drivers should join the A57 Mottram Road westbound from the Hattersley roundabout, continue for just over two miles to the junction with the A627, turn left onto the A627 Union Street southbound, then turn right onto the A57 Market Street westbound to rejoin the M67 at junction 3.

National Highways has warned drivers to allow extra journey time but said there were no delays as of early Tuesday morning.
