A person has sadly died on train tracks between Manchester and Liverpool.

Emergency services were called to Broad Green station at around 9.30am on Monday (August 10) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "We were called to Broad Green station at around 9.30am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be prepared for the coroner."

The line between Wigan North Western and Liverpool Lime Street was blocked, with Northern services cancelled, delayed or revised. TransPennine Express services between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool were also unable to run. The line has since reopened, but disruption is expected to last until at least 12.30pm.
