A Manchester rock star has been unveiled as the latest famous face to lend their voice to Metrolink announcements as transport bosses warn the next two weeks will be among the busiest the city has ever seen.

Liam Fray from the Courteeners will take on the role of tram announcer, directing fans to five major gigs at Wythenshawe Park. He follows Liam Gallagher, Rita Ora, Tim Burgess and PinkPantheress in the role.

More than 400,000 people are expected to descend on Greater Manchester over the next two weekends, with the concerts joined by the first ever Manchester Village Pride taking over the city centre and two Premier League matches at Old Trafford and the Etihad Stadium.

What is happening at Wythenshawe Park?

Five big gigs are taking place across the coming week, with an increased capacity of 35,000 per night. The Bee Network has confirmed double trams will run on the Manchester Airport line at seven-and-a-half-minute intervals. Concert-goers should alight at the Moor Road stop, a short walk from the venue.

Shuttle buses will also run from Aytoun Street near Piccadilly every six minutes and from East Didsbury every 15 minutes. An £8 daily event travel pass on the Bee Network app gives holders access to all buses, trams and dedicated shuttles for the day.

What else is happening?

Manchester City host their first home Premier League game of the season this Sunday, while Manchester United play at Old Trafford the following weekend. Tens of thousands more will attend Manchester Village Pride over the bank holiday weekend.

Fran Wilkinson, customer and growth director at Transport for Greater Manchester, urged the public to review their travel options in advance, saying the convergence of Pride, football and the Wythenshawe Park concerts would make it "a particularly busy period" for the region.
